FGS Curriculum Overview Fall 2008 Winter 2009 Spring 2009
Winter Term
“Power: Forces and Change”
Math and science skills learned during fall term will be incorporated and applied to a study of physics. Through a series of experiments and projects, students will explore motion, speed, and different forms of energy.
We will continue our world geography and civilizations study with a focus on power structures in within governments from the Middle Ages to the present. Investigations of the factors that led to citizen revolts in the 18th and 19th centuries will help us to understand the systems designed to protect a balance of power in a democracy.
We will explore the power of words in poetry and other forms of literature. We will discover how effective communication skills can develop healthy personal power. We will also take a look at what happens when power is used in negative ways in relationships between people as well as between countries.
Our culminating event for winter term will be our Math, Science and Technology Exposition in which physics concepts will be displayed with power point presentations and a variety of hands-on projects.
