We feel fortunate that much of the ground-breaking for girl-centered programming has already been done, and we are grateful for the resources these model organizations provide. Below you will find links to many of the programs and organizations mentioned on our website, as well as several girls’ schools that have served as models for our own development.
Girls Inc.: “Inspiring all girls to be strong, smart, and bold.” This nonprofit designs programs that encourage girls to take risks and master the challenges that come their way.

Girls Incorporated of NW Oregon: The “Allies in Action” and “PEERsuasion” program was developed by Girls Inc. of NW Oregon. Their empowerment programs promote girl solidarity and teach every girl that she has a limitless and attainable potential.

Carol Gilligan: Her research provides the foundation for this new era of girls’ education.

Orchard House: This school served as a model for the development of FGS. We are indebted to their vision, courage, and leadership.

Seattle Girls’ School: SGS is another local model of girls’ school education in Washington state. Their curriculum is known state-wide (and nationally!) for educating the future women leaders of the nation.

The National Coalition of Girls’ Schools: “The National Coalition of Girls’ Schools (NCGS) is the leading advocate for girls’ education. Believing that girls’ schools are the most powerful, transformative learning environments for girls, NCGS seeks to document the unique qualities that best define the girls’ school experience. To this end, NCGS conducts research, promotes best practices, supports public outreach activities, and sponsors academic conferences with a focus on girls and learning. It serves its Member Schools as they prepare young women to be the visionaries and leaders who will make the world a better one for all.” Be sure to check out the “Why A Girls’ School” page on their website.

Girls on the Run: This non-profit encourages girls to develop confidence and healthy life-practices through running. “The Girls on the Run objective is to reduce the potential display of at-risk activities among its participants. The goal is fewer adolescent pregnancies and eating disorders, less depression and suicide attempts, as well as fewer substance/alcohol abuse problems and confrontations with the juvenile justice system.”

Northwest Girls Coalition: An affiliation of organizations that support and serve women. “Our mission is to strengthen the girl-serving community by fostering education and collaboration in the Puget Sound region. The NWGC serves girls by supporting the organizations and individuals who provide direct support to girls.”

FGS receives anonymous hardware and software donation to FGS Technology Program. Every FGS student will have use of a laptop to support her academic studies!
